2.  How would you rate the Great Basin Experiment Education Center (GBEEC)?

Excellent   19                 Good     3                 Alright 2

Comments

  • Except that, I think, there should be at least 2 showers per cabin
  • Fun!
  • Maybe a little bit of paint and the area is so wonderful. The wildlife and forestry is superb. It is an ideal place to learn about ecosystems.
  • Fun, but not enough relating time
  • Maybe skip the tour of the college
  • I like the cabins, especially the guy's  (the lodge)
  • I learned A LOT and had a great time; it was better than I could have expected.
  • Sewer system and hot water heater were not very good
  • The cabins are great!
  • The center is well established and is a good place to stay.
  • The facilities were comfortable and adequate for the group
  • Good program
  • Great environment

3.  How would you rate the Land Use Scenerio activity?

      Excellent       13             Good      10                Alright 1

b. What was the most interesting thing you learned about natural resources?

  • It is hard to pick just one because I learned so many interesting things in so many different areas of science I didn't even know could be studied.
  • I learned a lot about ho herds of domestic animals actually aid the land. It was something I had never really thought of how a farm would create tons of growth.
  • How much there is to know about soil.
  • Bigger aspen trees have a growth suppression hormone to keep new trees from growing good.
  • It was interesting to learn of specific common interests of groups.  Hilltop Homes should have had representation (not by students) to express their interests.
  • Looking at things like an environmentalist would look at it.
  • Soils are much more interesting and complex than I thought. I wish we would have had more information about the groups we were supposed to be representing
  • The fact that there are so many different jobs and studies involved and they all seem really fun!
  • That you can get a job doing what you love to do and there are so many different natural resources jobs.
  • Trees : Soils : Forestry : Everything
  • About all the plants and animals
  • Too much!
  • That fires can actually help nature out.
  • How all the pro's have to work together to get things done because everything is a big factor when you change one thing.
  • That there are so many people & details that are involved.
  • The most interesting thing I've learned about natural resources is when I played Jenga and each part had to deal with the ecosystem.
  • That there is a lot of sodium chloride in the soil, and that there are a lot of field tests to check different ph levels.
  • That they have a field in anything you're interested in
  • Although some people specialize and have different points of views they are all related and intertwined in some kind of way.

  • They were all different but great
  • I always knew a general of each but know I know more of the specifics dealing with jobs
  • Very well presented. I enjoyed all of the presentations
  • It was great
  • They were all very interesting because I didn't know much about any natural resources.
  • Maybe a little more hands on for some of them.
  • It was great. Some of the newer professionals need more practice, but all the professionals were so great at relating with the students. Their vast knowledge was unbelievable but they managed to relate it to the world that I would notice.
  • Great information this year
  • They were all fun and very informative
  • All the professionals were really fun and they knew what they were talking about.

4.  My team's group leader was

Excellent      19              Good    4                  Alright  1

5.  How would you rate the team building games?

Excellent      13              Good     10                 Alright  1

Comments

  • We had a really good team!
  • The baby game was not very good for people who don't know how to work with disabilities
  • They really helped us to get to know others and have fun working as a team.
  • They were SO fun! We saved the baby!
  • It was a great learning experience & taught a great lesson
  • I appreciated getting to know everyone else. It is really too bad this camp didn't last longer so I could meet all the students and leaders.
  • Fun
  • Some of them were quite a challenge
  • It made everyone be unified and make friends
  • Maybe get all different body types on a team
  • Kind of long
  • Some were too easy
  • Some of the team games were for more coordinated groups and others for groups that are steady. The games were effective in showing how teams need to work together and how teams have different abilities.
  • I really enjoyed the team building games because you needed team work to get through all of them and nobody got left behind.
  • Team work and communication is the main thing
  • Rain sucks!

6.How was your overall camp experience?

Excellent   20                 Good 3                     Alright  1

Comments

  • Everyone was so friendly and awesome. Spending time with friends and doing activities to learn is one of the neatest things you can do.
  • I didn't know quite what to expect but this camp blew away any preconceived notions I may have had. I had such a blast. Great friends, great folks, great food!
  • It was a very fun week.
  • Everyone got along great.
  • This has been a really good experience because everyone has been cooperative and gotten along well. I learned so much that I can take back to everyday life.
  • It was fun to get to know everyone and learn about all that nature stuff
  • I had a great time hanging out with everyone and talking. Also going to the field was knowledgeable
  • I like that it is busy but still laid back a bit. It isn't WAY strict & it's awesome!
  • I wouldn't have made it if everyone wasn't so nice.
  • I want to come back!
  • The activities were either informative, inspiring, fun, or all three. It's a very good schedule.
  • I would like to come back again, I enjoyed it.

7.Would you recommend this natural resources camp to other high school students?

Yes   24                    No 0

8. What could we do to improve this Natural Resources Camp?

More sleep

More free time

  • Nothing, it was good how it was
  • More showers!
  • Maybe more showers
  • More showers - more hot water
  • More exercise
  • If you are compensating for activity level by adding calories, would it notbe logical to also allow students to get at least 8 hours of sleep?
  • Nothing!
  • Do something other than lecture right after lunch or dinner during the "sleepy hour," such as team games etc.
  • I liked it the way it was because we all kept busy.
  • Neither, time nor sleep. Make sure the TV is removed from the dorm before everyone gets here.
  • More sleep and free time - that's it!
  • Give the girls a better cabin, of course. Make it a bit longer, and perhaps find a way to allow time for the lessons learned in the last professional group to settle before other presentations. Make sure that someone brings a karaoke machine for extra kicks and giggles.
  • Pay the kids
  • I think we need more group activities so that we got to know more people.
  • More free time to talk with the professionals
